After high school, Richard attended Westchester Community College and later graduated with an accounting degree from Pace College. In between the time he attended Westchester C.C. and Pace, Richard took a break from school to run his dad’s business but soon found himself caught up in the military draft during the Vietnam War. After a two year stint in the U.S. Army, which took Richard through training stateside and further training and preparedness in radar school in Germany, he left the service to continue his college education. Richard graduated from Pace College in 1970 and joined one of the “Big 8” accounting firms, Arthur Young & Company, where he achieved passing the CPA exam getting his license to practice as a Certified Pubic Accountant in 1972. In March of 1971, Richard married Louise Olivieri, a childhood sweetheart from the age of nine, and they settled in White Plains where they raised their three children: Jennifer, Richard and Kristen. In 1992, Richard moved with his family to Thornwood where he soon began meeting new friends in the community leading to his joining the Mount Pleasant Italian American Association at the invitation of one of its co-founders. Richard was the MPIAA’s president in 2005 and 2006 where he took pride in carrying out his duties and responsibilities, and currently serves on its Board and Scholarship Committee. Soon after joining the MPIAA, Richard was asked to join the American Legion Gilbert Rauh Post in Thornwood where he actively contributed his time and achieved the positions of Vice Commander and Treasurer.
